Measures to prevent future cyber attacks on the HSE have been put in place in the wake of the May 14th attack.

A report into the attack, today confirmed the virus entered the system after an email was opened at a HSE workstation on the 18th March but remained undetected for 8 weeks.

Jessica Kelly reports for RedFM News:

"The cyber security controls of the HSE were not strong enough to detect the malware that caused havoc on its systems, according to the report carried out by PWC.

It described the lack of a cybersecurity lead as ‘highly unusual’ for an organisation of the HSE’s size and nature.

Protective measures have since been put in place to strengthen the infrastructure against any future attack, including a 24 hour cybersecurity defence team, enhanced user awareness and reduced levels of access."
