MEP Sean Kelly says this country needs a wake-up call on our energy storage facilities.
He's been pressing for an LNG storage terminal in the Shannon Estuary for some years now.
Currently, there are 21 operational gas terminals in the EU and a further 20 at planning stage.
MEP Kelly says Ireland seems happy to rely on other countries to make the hard decisions for us:
"We have an opportunity to build an LNG terminal, which the Green Minister is objecting to. Secondly, we have vast resources of gas off our shore, which we could utilize pretty quickly. We're quite happy for someone else to take it out of the ground and export it to us and not take it out of the ground ourselves."
