A scheme to support the night-time economy and increase footfall in towns and cities is getting a boost of €1.4 million.
Culture Minister Catherine Martin says there's been overwhelming interest in the supports on offer for the likes of pubs, nightclubs and cafes.
Applications for events such as music, comedy, theatrical productions and art exhibitions will reopen today.
Sunil Sharpe from the Give Us The Night campaign says it's welcome but a major cash injection is needed to keep the industry going:
"We need more schemes and we need more support and particularly the nighttime industry and the venues and the promoters and the performers. They need more support, you that includes the lowering of of the VAT rate and in the forthcoming budget, it means addressing insurance, it means waiving special exemption orders."
