The Minister for Housing has been accused of losing control of the homeless situation, after figures revealed single person homelessness has hit 5 thousand for the first time.
The May Homeless Report also reveales the number of children in emergency accommodation has passed 3 thousand.
Sinn Fein's housing spokesperson Eoin O Broin says despite a full year of increases in homeless levels, the Minister has no plan and no effective response to what is an ever escalating crisis:
"He has had plenty of time to try to address this problem. In fact, it was his actions last year, ending the blanket ban on evictions, that has led to almost a 12 months consecutive increase in homelessness. We have been urging him month after month, as these figures have risen, to take urgent action and yet he has done nothing".
