More than one thousand people were treated at the country's six sexual assault treatment units last year.
The latest annual report of the HSE-funded units also reveal a growing trend of perpetrators using extreme violence in assaults.
The units are located in Cork, Dublin, Waterford, Mullingar, Galway and Letterkenny.
Noeline Blackwell, CEO of Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, says the units provide a vital service:
"The fact that the numbers were up by a quarter this year is a good thing. It's still about just over 1000. And while this is a big increase on last year, if you were to take COVID and the lockdown periods out of that it's about 10% up on 2019".
