The National Ambulance Service has launched a new drive for volunteers interested in saving people's lives.
Community First Responders get full training to enable them to be in the right place at the right time to perform C.P.R. or some other life saving care.
Already 250 C.F.R. schemes operate around the country.
Ger O'Dea from the National Ambulance Service reminded people of the importance of the service:
"These volunteers being community based, particularly in rural settings, it's expected that they would be in the right place at the right time, and they would get to the car ahead of the ambulance. That's very important because in particular, if it's a cardiac arrest situation where someone's heart has actually stopped, well, every minute counts."
