A new bill which would link rents to people's incomes is to be debated in the Dáil today.
The People Before Profit proposal also seeks to establish a National Rent Authority.
Yesterday, the Taoiseach Micheál Martin said there would not be a landlord left in Ireland if the bill was to pass.
However, Richard Boyd Barrett from People Before Profit says they want to reduce rents to affordable levels:
"It is simply not sustainable for people to be paying 40, 50 and 60% of their entire after tax income on just putting a roof over their head and indeed, many can't even get a roof over their head because they can't afford the rents and actually end up in emergency accommodation. So we have to make rents affordable based on people's actual incomes."
