A new bill aimed at providing a low cost, efficient way to deal with legitimate insurance claims in a timely and a cost effective manner has been welcomed by the Alliance for Insurance Reform.
The Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Robert Troy said the bill will be presented in the Dáil in the autumn and he expects it will be enacted before the end of the year.
As part of the bill the role of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board will be enhanced and would be offering a mediation service for the first time.
The Director of the Alliance for Insurance reform Peter Boland said allowing PIAB to deal with a greater number of cases is a welcomed development:
"The scope of the bill as proposed allows PIAB to handle more cases and that is to be welcomed and the allowance for mediation within the PAI process. We would urge Minister Robert Troy to make sure that this bill has commenced by year end so that it can effectively transition from good intentions into real results."
