A new survey has found that 53 percent of parents here have had to take time off work to look after their kids when they are sick from school.
The research was carried out by probiotic company Pro-Ven, and found that on average nearly half of all school children miss four or more days of school each year as a result of an everyday childhood illness.
The research found that in 64 percent of cases, the child's mother takes time off to look after sick children compared with 26 percent for dads.
Parents lean on grandparents for help in 28 percent of these cases.
