Nurses, teachers and Gardaí are all being priced out of the property market.

Data compiled for the Irish Independent shows they won't qualify for a mortgage for an average three-bed semi-detached house - particularly in Dublin.

An average home across the country costs over 286,000 euro - rising to almost half a million euro in Dublin.

The figures compiled from official salary scales and CSO data show that many workers, including librarians and lower-paid civil servants would need to share a loan with another employee, or have a large lump sum, to afford a mortgage.
