Nursing homes have written to Taoiseach Micheál Martin, warning more closures are inevitable and that the sector is in a crisis.
17 nursing homes have been forced to close their doors in 2022, with over 480 residents losing their homes.
Tadhg Daly, chief executive of Nursing Homes Ireland, says the loss of nursing homes has serious implications for care in the community:
"We're calling on the government to inject a stabilisation fund for the sector to ensure that we can stem the current tide of closures and ensure a sustainable sector for the medium term, and then to undertake the long awaited review of the pricing mechanism of fair deal that has been recommended by numerous government reports over many years."
