A member of an Oireachtas Committee is defending the Media Minister over the payments controversy at RTÉ.
Catherine Martin is due before the Committee tomorrow, over her TV remarks that led to the resignation of former Chair Siún Ní Rathallaigh.
She's at odds with the RTE Board, claiming she wasn't told an exit package for former RTE CFO Richard Collins was approved.
Committee member Senator Micheál Carrigy says Minister Martin received the wrong information:
"It was unfortunate that we have seen the resignation of Siún Ní Rathallaigh, but you know, the facts are there, that on two occasions in the week leading up to it, that the wrong information had been given to the Minister with regard to the Exit Packages and these are issues that the Minister was asking the questions on behalf of government, on behalf of the taxpayer, and the correct information should be given at all times".
