That's the stark warning from Crosshaven RNLI after a father and son were rescued from the water off Fountainstown yesterday evening and taken to CUH by Rescue Helicopter 117.
The volunteer lifeboat crew were dispatched to reports of a person in the water at 7:30pm by the Coast Guard.
The man was found clinging to a marker bouy by five 16 year olds who were fishing in a boat nearby, while the child was rescued from an inflatable lilo by a local kayaker.
It's understood the child was washed out to sea by strong currents and his father got into difficulty while trying to rescue him.
