Plans for the state to subsidise developers to build apartments have been criticised by the opposition.
They could get up to 120,000 euro per apartment , in order to fund the shortfall between spiralling building costs and current market prices.
500 million euro is being provided under the Housing for All Plan.
Labour's Housing Spokesperson Senator Rebecca Moynihan doesn't believe it is the right approach:
"They are removing the risk for developers. They're removing everything that a developer is meant to do. So why doesn't the government just become the developer? If they're giving this amount of money to developers, it makes sense to me that we need to use that money for direct government intervention".
