Over 100 People Expected To Protest In Rural Community In East Cork Against Eirgrids Plans To Build Major Electricity Converter Station

Locals in Knockraha have submitted over 1000 signatures to the company objecting to the development

The converter station is to form part of a 1 billion euro interconnector cable between France and Ireland.

In a statement to RedFM News a spokesperson for Eirgrid says, "the company has had meetings with locals from the area however the final site for the converter station has not yet been selected....Once it is selected the company says detailed analysis will examine any possible impacts on a range of environmental and technical considerations."

Speaking to RedFM News this morning Margarite Cremin of the local environment group says Knockraha is not the appropriate choice for the converter station;
