From today, those aged 17 and over will be able to access free at-home STI tests.
People will be able to apply for the tests at sexualwellbeing.ie, with them being sent out via post free of charge.
Dr. Fiona Lyons, HSE Clinical Lead for Sexual Health says it will allow for people to be more confident in accessing sexual health services:
"It isn't for everybody, and it's largely targeting individuals who are asymptomatic and that does a number of things. It allows people to be in great control of their sexual health and to meet their sexual health needs. It also overcomes many of the long standing barriers of stigma and embarrassment around having together sexual history or having to talk to somebody about their sex lives."
