There have been 32 more deaths on the road this year compared to the same time last year.
83 people have been killed on the country's roads so far in 2022.
The Gardaí are unveiling a #SlowDown social media campaign today, to highlight the importance of slowing down and driving carefully.
Garda National Roads Policing Bureau Chief Superintendent Mick Hennebry says a further spike in road deaths must be avoided:
"We're averaging 14 rural deaths per month, and tragically, if this trend has not reversed, we could end the year with one of the worst years in the decade. So the message is simple, the message is very, very urgent. An Garda Siochána and indeed the Road Safety Authority, we cannot do this on our own, we need the help and we're reaching out to communities and people who care to adjust their driving behaviors."
