Oxfam Ireland is calling on the Government to introduce a Wealth and Windfall Tax.
In its pre-budget submissions the charity said the tax could generate billions in new revenue.
They said the revenue could help with the increasing cost of living crisis.
CEO of Oxfam Jim Clarken says it's a genuine proposal:
"We're saying this, the government should consider a carefully designed and implemented wealth tax, tackling wealthy people, which could generate as much as €5 billion for the economy that could support the people who are suffering from the cost of living crisis. It's a genuine proposal that could actually be a game changer if it was carefully designed and implemented, on top of considering windfall tax for companies that made excess profit during the last few years."
