Pay As You Go customers are not included in the energy moratorium announced in Tuesday's Budget.
The vast majority of households will not have their electricity disconnected between December 1st and February 28th, while vulnerable households have an energy guarantee from October to March.
Cork TD Mick Barry raised the issue in the Dáil today, and said that the €10 credit currently being afforded to pay as you go customers before disconnection should be increased to the point that no household will be cut off this winter.
Around 200,000 households are using pay as you go for gas and electricity, according to Deputy Barry
Tánaiste Leo Varadkar says ideally everyone would be included in the moratorium but that it would be difficult to include Pay as You Go customers.
