People Before Profit believes access to higher education needs to be reformed, including the abolition of the Leaving Cert.
TD Richard Boyd Barrett thinks the crisis of the Leaving Cert during COVID-19 has highlighted the problems that existed before the pandemic.
He says the 'intense competition' for higher education causes a lot of stress among young people, adding that it limits access to third level.
"It's a one size fits all competition that we're imposing on people at a very young age, where it's winner takes all.
"The way I'd put it very simply is this - we wouldn't dream now of rationing access to secondary education, although once upon a time we did do that. Why are we doing it now?"
