PETA is calling for horse racing to be banned in Ireland.
It comes as the Galway Races are underway in Ballybrit this week.
PETA says around 240 horses were killed in racing in Ireland in the last two years.
Its Digital Campaigns Manager, Chelsea Munro, says it wouldn't happen in other sports:
"I understand that it's an Irish tradition, but tradition is never an excuse for cruelty. Let's just think about this for a second. It's unacceptable to risk an animal's life. They're thinking, feeling individuals just like us. Let's flip this. If footballers were killed after sustaining an injury during a game, I can't imagine they would risk playing and I'm pretty sure football fans would turn their backs on sport very quickly".
