Prices at the pumps will take a significant jump from midnight.
Petrol will rise by 6 cent per litre, with an increase of 5 cent per litre for diesel, as excise duty cuts for the cost of living crisis are being reinstated on a phased basis.
Motoring Editor with the Sunday Independent, Geraldine Herbert, says prices now are much lower than they were when excise duty was cut.
"At the time they were cut they were actually the highest that the AA had ever recorded.
"Now at the moment according to pumps.ie they're actually quite stable, and we're almost back around to September 2021 prices.
"According to pumps.ie if you're buying petrol at the moment you're probably paying between €1.53-€1.55 per litre, and diesel about €1.42-€1.44."
