The price of the pint is set to rise next month.
Diageo has written to all publicans in the country advising the price of a pint will increase by five cents when VAT is included from August.
The Vintners Federation of Ireland say the price rise is poorly timed and deeply unfair to both consumers and publicans and follows a 12 cent rise in February
They are calling on Diageo to review this decision immediately, however Diageo say "rising business costs" are the reason behind the price increase.
Speaking to RedFM News Michael O'Donovan of the VFI in Cork says some publicans have indicated that they will try to absorb the price rise
"We try and offer value to our customers. Some people will be passing on this increase, other publicans will probably try and absorb this price increase, so there will be a mixture.
"This is frustrating today that Diageo are doing this, there's never a good time to increase the prices.
"Maybe in the middle of the tourist season for a lot of places this is the worst time to do it."
