The pro-life movement says its morally wrong to use disability as an excuse to abort an unborn baby.
The comments come after new figures from the British Department of Health and Social Care revealed that 85 women who had terminations in Britain last year gave Irish addresses.
The figure contrasts with the number of abortions in the Republic last year which was recorded at 8,876 - and comes as the Government considers a number of changes to existing laws here.
Pro-life campaigner Eilis Mulroy says any changes to the law here, need to be carefully scrutinised:
"I think that Irish people would really not at all be in favour of widening the abortion law to allow for abortion of a baby because he or she has Down Syndrome. I think that would be a terrible departure and not something that the mainstream person would support".
