Proposals to tax all motorists and abolish road tolls, have been described as 'anti-rural'.
Charging for use of entire road network is being considered by Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
If approved, this would remove all existing tolls charges and would see all motorists charged for using the national road network.
The review comes after it was announced in November that toll charges were set to rise by almost 10% on most toll roads across the country.
Under the plan tolls for the M8 Rathcormac/Fermoy bypass would have risen by 10 cent to €2.10 for cars
Independent TD for Kerry, Michael Healy-Rae doesn't agree with the proposals being put forward by the TII and says drivers are already paying too much tax:
"You must remember that this would be an anti-rural measure because people living in rural areas don't have the same type of public access to transport. And I think this is wrong. I'm very disappointed with Transport Infrastructure Ireland to be suggesting this, because once they start suggesting it, and mooting it, and putting it out there, of course there will be people, like environmental gurus, who will say yes, this is a great way to try to stop people driving".
