The Public Expenditure Minister says the one-off measures in Tuesday’s Budget will help those who are carrying the largest burden the most.
Minister Michael McGrath was speaking at the official opening of Port of Cork’s new container terminal in Ringaskiddy this afternoon.
The government are due to announce a series of one-off measures said to be worth around €2 billion to ease the cost of living crisis during Tuesday’s Budget.
It comes amid a background of rising inflation and soaring energy costs.
Speaking to RedFM News, Public Expenditure Minister Michael McGrath outlines what people can expect on Tuesday:
"I think for those who are feeling the pain the most at the moment, the help will be the greatest because it needs to be. We need to target our resources to people who have a really genuine need and carry a heavy burden and we will do that. We also have to acknowledge there are people who are working, who do not get any state benefits and they're facing big bills as well in the coming months and so they will also need support. So, the truth is that this will be a combination. It will involve a balance between targeted measures of particular groups focused on those who are most in need and also broader measures that will provide some support to everyone who will be facing these higher bills."
