Religious symbols in state run schools must be reflective of the entire school community in the future.

The blueprint on ethos will apply to more than 200 second-level shcools run by Education and Training Boards.

However, Atheist Ireland believes it's not possible to have symbols for every religion and belief.

It's chairman Michael Nugent says it'll cause complications for some schools:

"So to that extent, I'm quite sceptical about how they do things, but the main practical problem is what does it mean to have symbols for every religion or belief. You literally can't do that. There's too many religions and beliefs to be able to do that - all you'll be you'll end up doing is having the major religions".
