There's a significant increase in the amount of nine-year-olds who have their own mobile phone from 44 to 54% in the past ten years.
That's according to a new report from the ESRI, which looked at nine year olds from 2007 and compared them to the same age group ten years later.
The report shows more children have illnesses or disabilities increasing from 11 to 24%.
Those spending more time watching TV and using computers are less likely to engage in active sports or after school play.
Emer Smith Reserach Professor at the ESRI said the findings throw up some interesting results:
"It shows some interesting things around screen time. So a portion of nine year olds who have their own mobile phone has increased from 44% to 54%. And we see a real shift in the type of screen time away from watching television as you'd expect towards time and other devices."
