Four people will die every day in Ireland from alcohol related harm and illness.
The findings in a research paper published by Alcohol Action and University College Cork found that existing data from 2017 under-reports the likely death rate by over 40%.
The research also suggest that 27% of suicides and self-harm incidents are attributable to alcohol.
CEO of Alcohol Action Ireland Dr Sheila Gilheany said the figures make for stark reading.
"Four people die every day in Ireland from alcohol related harm and illness.
"It's very stark. Behind every figure there that's mentioned, that's an individual, that's a family.
"There's devastation and loss from it, and I think it's just really draws attention to the need to be able to address alcohol harm in Ireland."
