Strike action has been temporarily suspended by retained fire fighters to allow for talks.
Negotiations between SIPTU and the Local Government management service have just gotten underway at the Labour Court.
If today's talks fail to achieve a resolution, SIPTU says the all-out strike will go ahead tomorrow as planned.
Speaking before the meeting this morning, Sector Organiser Brendan O'Brien says there needs to be a willingness to engage.
"The resolution to this dispute requires the implementation of the department's own recommendations to fix the retained fire service.
"that means early progress on two of the key issues, structured pay and structured leave for the firefighters.
"We hope that the employers have come here on a constructive basis."
