Ireland needs to take a tough approach to laser pen attacks after several flights at Dublin Airport were targeted last week.
That's according to an Airport and Safety Auditor who says the high powered pens can emit a beam from up to 5km away, hitting the cockpit and potentially harming a pilot's eyesight.
Retired Lieutenant Colonel with the Air Corps, Kevin Byrne, says we should be stamping out the dangerous practice like America has done:
"They send in police units, they seize the the offending device - the laser device, and they put the people into handcuffs. And some of them have got fairly serious convictions, and they've done maybe five years in jail. It's quite a serious matter for the US. So I would hope that we can adopt a fairly harsh approach to it in this jurisdiction, as well".
