A retired New York City cop has threatened to sue the Gardaí after they seized his de-commissioned gun.
Officers entered Jude McGovern's home in Cavan while he was out shopping, to execute a search warrant.
Gardaí have confirmed they carried out a search at a property in Swanlinbar and seized a suspected unlicensed firearm last Saturday.
Jude says its likely the weapon came to Garda attention after he showed it to someone else locally:
"Unfortunately, about four years ago, there was a local here whose started talking about guns. And I said 'I have a gun' and he said 'Could I see it?'. And I went upstairs and I took it down and he said 'Could I take a picture the with a gun?' and he had a wife or girlfriend, and a baby, and he took a picture of himself with a gun, but he put it on Facebook".
