There's been a steady rise in Covid-19 hospitalisations this winter to coincide with flu season.
Eligible groups are advised to get their bivalent Covid-19 vaccine to protect themselves and others.
Anyone aged 50 or over, the immunocompromised, those who are pregnant and healthcare workers are eligible for the booster.
Eileen Whelan, National Lead for the HSE's Covid Vaccination Programme, says there's an 'interplay' of viruses to contend with this winter.
"The two previous winters COVID was the dominant virus that was out there, prior to that the influenza virus was the dominant virus.
"But this year we're actually seeing an interplay between both the influenza virus and the COVID virus.
"Regretfully, what we've seen is we've seen an increase in both of those viruses in circulation since about early November. And since December, we've seen a sharp increase in both those viruses."
