The Road Safety Authority is appealing to motorists to take extra caution on the roads, in the wake of a spate of fatal crashes over the weekend.
4 people have died in three separate incidents in Mayo, Limerick and Kerry since yesterday afternoon.
A man and a woman died in a vehicle collision on the N21 near Patrickswell, Co Limerick, last night, while a 19 year old man died after his car crashed into a tree on the outskirts of Listowel, Co Kerry.
Meanwhile, Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a male pedestrian in his 40s was killed in a crash in Achill.
Brian Farrell from the RSA says it's been a bad year for road safety so far:
"Well, we're after having a dreadful weekend on the roads, five lives have been lost since Friday. It's also on the back of a year that has been really poor from a road safety point of view. In total, we've lost 94 lives on the road, so that's 28 more down to the same time last year."
