The number of people killed in crashes so far this year is up 21 to 50 deaths, when compared to the same time last year.
Gardai and the RSA are appealing to the public to take greater care on the roads this Easter Bank Holiday.
Chief Executive of the Road Safety Authority, Sam Waide, says country roads have the highest number of collisions:
"Over 84% of the fatalities are male and the majority of fatality 62% are on rural roads. so we would ask everyone for the Easter bank holiday weekend for those staycation breaks during the holidays. Please take care if you're if you're leaving the towns and cities and driving on routes are unfamiliar, and in rural areas."
