RTÉ has said no member of its executive board other than former Director General Dee Forbes could have known the public was misled on payments to Ryan Tubridy.
In a lengthy statement this evening, the broadcaster said the then Director General and the former Chief Financial Officer negotiated the deal.
The statement this evening explicitly says no member of the RTÉ executive board other than the Director General had all the necessary information in order to understand the publicly declared figures for Ryan Tubridy could have been wrong.
It says the contractual arrangements for 2020 to 2025 between Ryan Tubridy and RTÉ were negotiated by the Director General De Forbes and the then Chief Financial Officer as well.
It says the tripartite agreement between the commercial partner of RTE to pay him the extra €75,000 a year was arranged by the commercial director at the direction of the Director General Dee Forbes, and it was ultimately Miss Forbes who verbally agreed to underwrite the terms of the commercial arrangement.
The statement was arranged without the input of Dee Forbes earlier she told the Oireachtas Media Committee she wouldn't be able to appear before it tomorrow, citing ill health.
