RTE will renew its calls for reform of public funding when it goes before an Oireachtas Committee later.

The State broadcaster will tell TD's and Senators €65m is being lost annually due to license fee evasion - up from €50  in previous estimates.

It says 15.2% of homes didn't pay in 2020 and the number of households claiming to have no TVs is currently at 15.1%.

Chair of the Public Accounts Committee, Sinn Fein's Brian Stanley, doesn't believe increasing the license fee is the answer to RTE's problems.

"€95m in borrowing is substantial, and Dee Forbes the head of RTE is saying that they're in an unsustainable position.

"I think what we need to hear is what they need to do to get into a sustainable position.

"What we don't want to see is an increase in the television licence fee and I certainly don't want to see it - I would like to see a better collection of it."
