RTÉ's Director General is being asked to explain spending of over a quarter of a million euro on clothes for staff.

The broadcaster has spent €58,000 in Louis Copeland and €71,000 in Brown Thomas since 2021.

Other items bought included €908 to hire two dresses for the Rose of Tralee and €119  on cowboy boots.

Fine Gael TD Micheál Carrigy says Kevin Bakhurst has questions to answer over how taxpayers' money is being spent,

"With anything that's been purchased by an organization that's been funded by the taxpayer, there has to be value for money, and I don't believe that  value for money has been given to the taxpayer in this case. The buck stops with the Director General, he  gave commitments with the new era that was that was published last year, commitments were given by government, to give taxpayers money on the basis that we enter in a new era for the organization, but it doesn't seem to be the case that we are".
