The Russian ambassador to Ireland was summoned to the Department of Foreign Affairs on Monday after his country's attempt to annex parts of Ukraine.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Simon Coveney says he expressed Ireland's condemnation of the sham referendums in four regions of the country.
However, the Minister says he doesn't believe the ambassador should be expelled from Ireland.
Simon Coveney says it's important Ireland has a direct line of communication to the Russian Government.
