The Supreme Court judge, Mr Justice Seamus Woulfe, is giving evidence at the Golfgate trial, which is being heard before Galway District Court.
Two politicians and two hoteliers are accused of breaching a lockdown regulation in relation to their alleged roles in organising a dinner in 2020.
The dinner took place in the Clifden Station House Hotel after a two-day golfing event organised by the Oireachtas Golf Society.
Mr Justice Woulfe, who attended the event, said he assured himself beforehand that the appropriate guidelines were being followed.
