A Cork TD says the funding allocation for the Mallow Relief Road is "utterly deplorable" and is calling on the Government to increase the funding.
Sean Sherlock was speaking after Transport Infrastructure Ireland announced €100,000 for the project yesterday as part of a €550m round of funding for projects across the country.
Five million euro was announced for the planning and design stage of the M20 Cork to Limerick motorway, while Cork TD James O'Connor says four and a half million euro is being made available for works on the N73 Mitchelstown to Mallow road.
€800,000 was also announced for the N25 Midleton to Youghal Scheme which includes plans for bypasses around Castlemartyr and Killeagh.
Speaking to RedFM News, Deputy Sean Sherlock says he believes the lack of adequate funding for the Mallow Relief Road will effectively stall the project.
"Over €800,000 was spent last year bringing the project on, now the allocation of €100,000 won't bring it to planning phase.
"We need the Mallow relief road, the allocation of €100,000 isn't enough to bring the project along, and bring it through the planning stage so that monies can be allocated to actually put diggers and shovels in the ground."
