This follows his attendance at a dinner event in Galway this week.
In a statement issued on Twitter he says he believed his presence at the event has compromised the Government, at a time when people, across every sector of Irish society, are doing their best to keep all safe during this global pandemic
He says it was an unintended but serious lapse of judgement in attending the event and says he should not have attended the dinner and has apologised unreservedly for his actions
Earlier today The Agriculture Minister Dara Calleary resigned after breaking Covid 19 guidelines following his attendance at an Oireachtas golf society event at a hotel in Galway on Wednesday attended by 80 others.
The Taoiseach has accepted his resignation and says it was wrong and an error of judgement.
