Sending unsolicited nude images online is set to be banned.
Online flashing will become a criminal offence as part of proposed new legislation from Arts and Media Minister Catherine Martin.
Social media companies could face fines of 20 million euro if they fail to take action.
Fianna Fáil Senator Lisa Chambers says it's been called for for some time:
"Basically cyber flashing is where somebody sends an image of their naked body or a body part to somebody that didn't ask for it and didn't want it. Often they don't know the person, and it can happen through dating apps, social media sites, it can even happen if you're on public transport through the airdrop facility on an iPhone."
