Senior Government health officials have expressed "significant concerns" over Ireland's proposed new licensing laws.
Under the reforms, nightclubs will be permitted to stay open until 6am, while pubs can remain open until 12.30am, seven days a week.
The Department's concerns follow that of HSE officials, who noted longer drinking hours will lead to more alcohol-related presentations in emergency departments.
However, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly maintains the country's licensing laws need updating.
