A 13-year-old boy who died following a tragic hurling accident, has been described as a "wonderful, energetic kid".
Harry Byrne was pronounced dead in St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny yesterday, after he was injured in a hurling incident in St Kieran's College.
Local councillor Denis Hynes trained Harry's soccer team and says the community is reeling.
"He was an up and coming hurler, a great sports person, a lovely attitude.
"Today is absolutely devastating for the whole community, myself included.
"It's hard to make sense of it all."
Mayor of Kilkenny Andrew McGuiness says the city is in mourning.
"It's hugely unfortunate that this has happened to such a young man in Kilkenny.
"We're after a losing a young life, and it's very sad for everyone in Kilkenny, even for those who don't know him or the family.
"It's very very sad when you hear that kind of news."
