Minister Simon Coveney has welcomed a decision to give Northern Irish politicians more time to form a Government.
The pay of Stormont Assembly members will be docked until a new Executive is formed.
The Secretary of State has given parties until January 19th at the latest before there will be fresh elections.
Secretary Chris Heaton Harris gave limited powers to civil servants in Northern Ireland to implement policy:
"When so many are concerned about the cost of living in Northern Ireland. I know the public there will read that well welcome a further measure I intend to address. People across Northern Ireland are frustrated that they're members of the Legislative Assembly continue to draw a full salary was not performing all of the duties they were elected to do. I will thus be asking for this house's support to enable me to reduce MLA salaries appropriately."
