Sinn Féin has called for private healthcare to be phased out of public hospitals over ten years in its alternative health budget.

The party says it would increase the Department of Health's budget by €1.1 billion next year if in Government.

Among Sinn Féin's budget calls are 1,500 new graduate places for courses related to healthcare.

The party has committed to phasing out private practice in public hospitals over a ten year period were it in Government.

It's pre-budget health submission includes abolishing prescription charges for medical card holders and inpatient charges over two years.

The party also says parking charges at hospitals should be reduced and capped, particularly for frequent visitors.

The party says Budget 2023 should deliver 500 additional acute inpatient beds, 37 extra critical care beds and a 10 per cent expansion in surgical theatre capacity.
