The Finance Minister has rejected accusations the Government is ‘refusing to act’ on continuing pressures from inflation.

Sinn Fein has called for more cost of living supports to be put in place, in particular it wants excise on home heating oil dropped.

It comes as the EU examines another round of sanctions against Russia, in which Ministers are looking at ending the trade in Russian oil and gas.

Sinn Fein's Pearse Doherty says the measures already introduced to ease the effects of inflation don't go far enough

"You're refusing to act, you have the power, you have the ability to act now. Instead of  increasing home heating oil, which you plan to do on the 1st of May, let's reduce it, instead of actually ignoring the plight of those who are most vulnerable. Let's bring forward a social welfare package that protects them for the most part. That's what I would do Minister if I was sitting on your side"
