Sinn Féin has published a plan for local authorities to build affordable homes at a maximum price of €230,000.
Under the scheme local authorities would build homes funded by the government with a margin paid to builders.
Cost rental homes built under the scheme would have a maximum monthly rent of €900.
Sinn Féin's Housing Spokesman Eoin O'Broin says his plan would cut out the middleman of developers and the mark up that comes with them.
