It was brought before TDs in the Dáil last night, calling on the state to pay the students €14 an hour.
That's the equivalent rate of a healthcare assistant, the same pay students received in the first wave of the pandemic.
Sinn Fein's health spokesperson, David Cullinane, says they should be treated fairly:
"I think it was quite disgraceful that the government voted down this Dáil motion, and I think was quite telling that everybody in the Dáil with the exception of the government TDs voted against the government amendment and voted for a private member's motion which called for fairness and fair levels of pay for student nurses and midwives, so that's on the government, and that's on the Minister for Health, the fact that they voted down that motion."
